The old-vine character comes through clearly here, with bark and mushroom undertones to the blackberries and blueberries. Oyster shells with seaweed attached. It’s medium-bodied with chewy tannins that are medium-grained and tell the story of these old vines, most of which were planted in 1907. Give this four or five years to come around. Better after 2028, but it’s joyful to taste its potential and history.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon La Parcele 8 comes from a vineyard planted in 1907 in Apalta within the Colchagua Valley. Aged for two years in French oak barrels, this dark garnet wine boasts aromas of cassis and liqueur, complemented by cedar, vanilla and balsamic hints. Rich and bold, its plush texture and juicy flow lead to a faintly compact mouthfeel. This is a serious, complex Cabernet with a nod to Bordeaux.

Lapostolle Apalta La Parcelle 8 is a beautiful deep red ruby color. The nose is elegant and complex, opening towards intense fruit with herbs and spices. Classic structure on the palate with elegant tannins, flavors of fruit and black spices, and a long-lasting, velvety finish.
Pairs well with red meats such as roasted lamb and braised short ribs, or complements mushrooms or a cheese plate.
